This month was quite an emotional and exciting time in our household. So many special milestones to celebrate!!!
I am a full-time teacher and have been working hard towards my tenure. I finally received my tenure letter! It states that I will be considered at the upcoming board meeting this June. I began my teaching degree at 18 and have subbed, been a TA, and a part-time employee. Now, I have been working as a full-time teacher for three years. So, it has been about 10 years of work to get to this point. So overjoyed and proud of myself!
Wedding & Dating Anniversary
If you read my recent post about keeping your love alive in a relationship, you know that Bobby and I have had a lot to look back on. We just celebrated being married for one year and have dated for a total of seven (crazy to think about how long it has been!).
To celebrate, we went out and had a delicious dinner at Jimmy Hayes. Seriously, the best steak I have ever had in my life. We go at least once a year and the price is totally worth it (about $200-300 for both of us). One of my friends is getting married this weekend in Montauk and we are extending our stay for the entire weekend to treat ourselves! We are staying at a place overlooking the ocean. Cannot wait! Happy one year to us. xx
We were college sweethearts. Bobby was actually dating someone when we met, so it was a rocky start for us. I told him I loved him two weeks into dating. Within the first week, I told one of my best friends, Melanie, that I would marry him one day. I was right.
House Purchase Anniversary
Two years ago this month we made the decision to purchase a house. It was both scary and exciting, at the same time. I recently wrote about what the process was like for Bobby and I. If you are someone that is looking to buy a home or is in the process of purchasing, definitely take a peak at my post. I give a list of detailed tips to make your experience and process smoother than if you just winged it, like I did.
Favorite Purchase: Throw Pillows
I am notorious for switching out my throw pillows in my living room. We are people who actually use them. For real though… why do people get throw pillows and not actually use them? I am not about just buying things for “show.” Everything must have a purpose. Bobby typically takes them onto the floor to lay with the dog. They get worn and washed many times throughout the year. So, I am always looking for new ones!
The annoying thing…I have too many extras now! I must have 8-10 extra pillows chilling in my basement crying for some use. A few weeks ago, I decided I wanted bright white pillows. Usually, I purchase my pillows at HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls. But, we are saving to redo our kitchen and I didn’t feel like paying $60-80 on new ones.
So, I did some thinking and I decided to hop on to Amazon (my fav!). I searched and found that they sell thousands of throw pillow covers. Instead of buying entire pillows every time I am ready for a change, I am vowing to go this route. I used to pay $10-20 a pillow. You can easily find so many $5 throw pillow slips on Amazon! Yep… $5!
Lastly, I was not a huge fan of the pillows I always used to purchase because of the feathers. They poke, prod, and make a little of a mess sometimes when they’re getting use. So, I purchased pillows that PERFECTLY fit inside the cases I bought. Still, not a bad deal. Also, finally cut ties and threw out more than half of my older pillows that don’t get use. Spring cleaning mode has been in full throttle!
Personal Growth: Learning To Say “No” More
May has been a major month of growth for me. Sometimes, people say the phrase “self-help” like it is a bad word. I have to admit, I never understood why people needed self-help.
But, once I opened up to the thought of analyzing how my mind worked and how I related to my environment, my life began to shift. It has been, no doubt, difficult. Full of self-reflecting and analysis. It is not always pretty. But, holy cow, how your world changes when you start to work to become a better version of yourself.
I am about six months into my journey. One of the biggest pieces I focused on this month is not being afraid to say no. I am a people pleaser, by nature. But, I am in recovery!
Long gone are the days I say “yes” on impulse. I have have learned many skills and strategies that I outlined in a recent post to help people like me; people who think they should be obligated to do certain things based on social convention. Truth is, if you say “yes” to things you don’t want to do, you are inauthentic. You are not living your truth.
Currently Reading: You are a Bada**
Now, if you follow me on social media, you know I purchased this a month ago. Well, I still have 4 weeks of teaching left! I teach English and read all freakin day long. So, when I get home, it is hard to want to crack a book open. But, I am slowly reading this bad boy! I am about halfway through. UH-MAY-ZING.
Seriously, Jen Sincere is a genius. What I love about her is that her writing is insanely real. She writes as if you are having a drama-unloading conversation with your best friend. I’ve made about 100 highlights so far of lines I read and thought, “That is TOTALLY my life! She gets me.”
To me, that makes great writing. It is all about connection. I cannot wait to finish and write a review on this one!
